Did
you know that in 2019, a staggering 15.1 million children throughout the world
had lost both their parents? The number of children with no parents in the USA
is also incredibly high and, while orphanages no longer exist, these children
are part of the complicated, government-run foster system whose aim is to find
suitable foster parents for them.
Growing
up without your natural parents is extremely difficult. In the United States,
orphans are lucky enough to be allocated to foster parents who love, encourage
and do everything they can for them. Whereas in other countries such as Haiti,
children are living on the streets. If they are lucky, they may encounter
someone with a kind heart such as myself that is willing to give them hope by
rescuing and place them in one of the orphanages such as the Bridge of Children
which plays a vital role in the children’s upbringing.
So,
what are the most pressing needs for vulnerable children and what do they need
the most from the adults around them? While we all know that they need all the
essential such as nutritious food, toys and a comfortable home. While this is
definitely a need, there is one thing that they need the most: “LOVE”
Feeling
loved can do wonders for a child’s state of mind, self-esteem and behavior. By
giving children unconditional love and support, you are fostering hope for a
bright future and a happy life.
When
you give and show love, you are also instilling in them a feeling of confidence
and well-being, which lets them know that they are worthy and capable of
achieving anything they set their mind to.
The
great news is that love does not cost a thing! Feeling loved by an adult or
foster parent, lets a child know that they do not need to be afraid of anything
and that they are accepted for the person they are, with no conditions or
restrictions.
Love
leads to empowerment and helps the child learn that they can stand on their own
two feet while feeling safe that they have the unconditional support of their care
takers.
