Have
you ever heard of social media etiquettes before? Etiquettes are a very
important part of our real-life scenarios when we meet and greet people, and
the same goes for the social media platform as well, where there are millions
and billions of people you could connect with. You have to be very careful
about other's sentiments. Let us have a look into some of the dos and don’ts
while using social media.
1. Don’t Post
Anything If You Don’t Have Anything Good To Share!
Remember
to be quite on anything you may not agree with or related to politics or
religion. These are some sensitive topics that shouldn't be argued out loud.
Instead of speaking nasty and exposing yourself to prying eyes in addition to
ruining your reputation, zip your lips!
2.
Be Selective While Posting on Social Media
You
don't have to post anything literally. Make sure that whether your post is
worth sharing or not. What's the purpose behind that? Does it hold a capacity
to be offensive to some? Ask these questions to yourself prior to posting. If
everything's fine and it is beneficial for others, then go on.
3.
Don’t Post Other’s Stuff Without Their Permission
Be
careful about posting others' pictures or videos without their permission, even
if they are your friend. Moreover, you have no right even to take pictures (or
inappropriate pictures as well!) of others without them being in knowledge or
without their permission and then later posting on social media. Their consent
is quite a necessity to do such a thing.
4.
Keep Your User Names Decent
I've
seen many individuals coming up with quite silly user names, which surely
aren't giving others a good impression. Double checks it, if it seems decent,
then fine, otherwise scrap that!
5.
Don’t Make Your Feelings Public!
Whatever
you're going through is none of the other business to know. Journaling is the
best way to do that, though it may seem old fashioned; it is indeed a perfect
way to pour your heart out.
6.
Don’t Post When You Are Angry Or Emotional!
It's
always a bad idea to post when you're mad because you aren't completely in your
senses at that time. Don't write anything which may make you regret or guilty
later on. The same goes for emotions as well. You may not think clearly when
you are emotional. You don't need to use the internet to sort your feelings out
instead of seeing a friend or any trusted adult who may help you out.
7.
Be Kind to Everyone
Social
media is similar to your real-life because there too exists people who are
actually real! Make sure that your messages or conversations should not be
humiliating for someone else. Put yourself in another's shoe, think that how
would you feel if such a message is sent to you. If it seems bad, then don’t
send them.
8.
Social Media etiquettes for Tagging Your Friends in a Group Photo
It
may seem fun to tag your friends, colleagues, and acquaintances in a group
picture, but it is ethical to get their permission first. Additionally, you may
think tagging in a group photo is normal, but it may place you in an
unfavorable position — and weaken your relationship. Moreover, I've seen people
posting group photos, where they only see how good they are looking in the
picture before posting it. But, a group photo is about everyone present in it.
It's very mean and unfair just to post the one where others are not in an
appropriate posture; for example, their eyes are not fully open, or they are
not looking pleasant in the photo. Thus, henceforth while posting a group
picture, make sure everyone's looking good and not just you!
Takeaway
Social
media is a platform for being connected with thousands of people around the
globe. While you connect with them, don't forget to show your good etiquettes.
Be kind to humans everywhere and don't indulge in any such talk, which may
disrupt the peace or is inappropriate or humiliating to others. Be decent! This
way, you won't damage your online reputation.
